La ptosis es la ca\u00edda del p\u00e1rpado superior. Puede afectar solo a uno o ambos ojos. La gravedad var\u00eda seg\u00fan el caso: puede ser apenas perceptible o cubrir parte o toda la pupila. Algunas personas nacen con ella y otras la adquieren por diversas razones. El s\u00edndrome de Blefarofimosis-Ptosis-Epicanto Inverso es una afecci\u00f3n poco com\u00fan que afecta los p\u00e1rpados y, en algunas mujeres, los ovarios. Una mutaci\u00f3n en el gen FOXL2 durante el embarazo provoca la falta de desarrollo muscular en el p\u00e1rpado, lo que provoca ptosis, adem\u00e1s de ojos estrechos, ojos muy separados y un pliegue de piel hacia arriba en la parte interna de los p\u00e1rpados inferiores. El s\u00edndrome de gui\u00f1o mandibular de Marcus Gunn es un trastorno gen\u00e9tico poco com\u00fan que suele presentarse al nacer.
